417 Area Running Groups

There are so many excellent reasons to run with a group: motivation, fun, safety, fun, encouragement, fun, inspiration, fun, and did I say FUN!?! We are very fortunate to have lots of running groups to choose from in Southwest Missouri. - Morning. Evening. Short. Long. Slow. Fast. Weekend. Weekday.  Many have a “no one left behind” practice.  Here is a listing of running groups in the area. If we missed a group, let us know via!

Message From the President - June 2017

President’s Message – June 2017

April Showers Bring May Shower’s – ENOUGH ALREADY!! !

As you have noticed, Southwest Missouri has received more than its fair share of rain this spring.  Washed out low areas and roads are being repaired quickly and the water is receding.  Stones and roots can be covered or loosened.  As always, please be careful out there.  Safety First!

All deferred entrants for the Frisco Railroad Run should be receiving instructions by the third week in June as to the registration procedures for the 2018 race.  If you will not be able to make use of your deferred entry, Frisco does allow the entry to be transferred to another for the same distance. Though weathered out and a bit of a revenue challenge, donations were approved for our charity partners.  Ozark Greenway’s - $1000, Willard Cross Country - $1000, Girls on the Run - $500 and Campbell UMC- $250.  Congratulations for helping to support these wonderful folks.

Many additional OMRR events are scheduled for June.  All Questions answered.  This is free to OMRR members.  The first Poker run, benefiting the Polk County Humane Society was held with the next Poker Run June 15th at the Burrell Lake benefiting the Cox North BASE Class.  A new event has been scheduled and will be co-sponsored by OMRR. This is TRACK NIGHT.  Should be a hoot and begin a great annual experience.  Tickets can be reserved now.  Contact Dan Well’s for details.

Lastly!  This is the perfect way to end your Independence Week celebration.  Please bring school supplies for the Strafford School Foundation.  The kids really need them.

That’s all for now!  Enjoy this active OMRR month!

Message From the President - May 2017

Good Morning OMRR!

Well, we had a bit of a hiccup. Cancellation was forced on The 9th Annual Frisco Railroad Run due to lightning and additional inclement weather conditions.  Details for accessing and registering for next year’s event should be messaged to participants within the next 30 days.  Number 10 promises to hold a special celebration.

Runners participating in the “Duel Challenge” will have been deemed to have run “Frisco” from their registration.  You will still need to complete Run for the Ranch to receive your challenge award.

Cancellation did affect the long haul Triple Crown contest.  Another race will be chosen to substitute this year.

The Two Spring Triple Crown Races,  Also, the Ozarks Multisport Club will once again be hosting the Duathlon Series at Fellow Lake.  Your training team has created a tremendous schedule for any level of runner to be able to complete their goal event for Bass Pro’s Fitness Festival. The Kick off meeting will be announced soon. Lastly, May is the beginning of the Poker Run season - Four midweek events promising to keep you active and benefit local charities.

Lace em up and join in the challenges and fun.  Look forward to seeing you out there.

Message From the President - April 2017

And maybe some other stuff.

Welcome OMRR Nation! ! ! !

We are quickly approaching April 29th – Frisco Railroad Run – the first of the Triple Crown Long Haul events. Beautiful spring flowers, chirping birds, and old bridges    The board has designated the 50k as the State Championship event.

Frisco will be the showcase of OMRR towards many out of area runners.

All Frisco race finishers will receive a great “new look” medal, a commemorative shirt (if registered by April 10th), and additional Swag at packet pickup.  Winners of the door prizes and race entries will be posted at the tent and for the first time, “Wellness Concepts” will be providing postrace assistance.   The participants guide will be posted to the website soon.

As always, this race would not be possible without the help of our volunteers.  Please use the volunteer form on the Frisco Railroad Run website if you can help.

Don’t forget the other Spring Triple Crown events and be sure to post your results for ROTY.

Many great events occur this time of the year and April is to Half Marathons as March is to Basketball.  A good number of great events are posted throughout our region and state. Pick a few, lace em up, and tune up for Frisco!

See you out there!

Hey, Howdy and Hello OMRR Nation!

Seems the Ozarks has missed most of the colder winter environment and created some extremely nice running days.  I know many of you enjoyed the “38th” annual (not so polar) Polar Bear Run in Bolivar, Heart of the Ozarks Half and Run with the Wind; three of the longest tenured winter events and always a great experience.

OMRR’s focus currently is to produce for you a tremendous “Frisco Railroad Run”!  Once again we will be providing all finishers with fantastic medals, door prize opportunities, and the hospitality tent at the trail head. OMRR members receive an entry discount.   To help this event flow smoothly we need lots of volunteers. Please consider volunteering before and/or after your race.

Dan Wells has worked hard on this year’s sponsored activities.  A movie night and arcade night will be included with the picnic and Springfield Cardinals baseball game.  This year’s activities have been placed on the Events page of the website as have the 2018 challenge races. Details are subject to change so please check this calendar often.

Website maintenance caused a temporary problem with our ROTY and Membership Renewal portals not allowing you to renew your membership.  This has been corrected.  Please give it another attempt.  We don’t want to lose you as a member.

Jeff and Marryha Williams will become our ROTY coordinators and Ron Boyer will be working with Triple Crown.  Please direct your questions or concerns to them.

Emily Konrad correctly identified the most OMRR members in the February Bass Pro Fitness Series photo.  She has chosen a gift card from our new sponsor/partner “Fleet Feet” as her award.  This month correctly locate and identify 10 silhouettes, scattered throughout the newsletter.  Send an email to, subject “Silhouette”.  First member to find them and report them correctly wins a gift card.

There should be some fantastic running days in the weeks ahead.  Organized training runs, running groups, local races, regional races, and St Patrick’s themed races should make March an active month.

See you out there!
